This species is a very slow summer grower that depends on the seasonal rains for growth. Like other cliff-dwelling cacti from this region, it requires excellent drainage and a strictly dry winter dormancy.
Origin
Central Mexico, endemic to the state of Querétaro. It is found exclusively in the canyon of the Moctezuma River, growing on nearly vertical, north-facing limestone cliffs in extremely inaccessible locations.
