This high-altitude species grows actively during the warm, rainy summer months of the southern hemisphere. It requires a cold, completely dry winter dormancy to thrive and flower the following spring.
Origin: Northern Argentina, specifically endemic to the Jujuy Province. It is found in the high-altitude Valle Grande, growing in the mountainous transition zone between the high Andes and the Yungas (cloud forest). It typically grows in rocky crevices or on grassy, moisture-rich slopes at elevations between 1,500 and 2,500 meters.
