This species is strictly a winter grower and is summer-deciduous, meaning it drops its leaves and enters a deep dormancy during the hot, dry summer months.
Origin: Northern Cape, South Africa (Richtersveld and Namaqualand) and southern Namibia. It is typically found on rocky, north-facing quartz or granite slopes in extremely arid, winter-rainfall desert conditions.
