In a cement pot by Prickly Point This species follows the typical Mexican cactus cycle, growing during the warm, rainy summer months. It requires a distinct dry winter dormancy to prevent rot and encourage spring flowering.
Origin: Central Mexico, specifically endemic to the state of Guanajuato. it is found in the Barranca de Xichú, growing on steep volcanic (rhyolitic) rock cliffs and rocky slopes in semi-desert scrub at elevations around 800–1,100 meters.
