In a cement pot by Prickly Point This species grows primarily during the warm, rainy summer months. It is notoriously slow-growing and sensitive to excess moisture, requiring a strictly dry, cool winter dormancy to prevent rot and encourage spring flowering.
Origin: Central Mexico, specifically endemic to the state of Aguascalientes (near the border of Jalisco). It is found on steep volcanic (rhyolitic) rock cliffs and slopes in oak-pine forest and semi-desert scrub, notably in the Sierra de Laurel.
