This species grows best during the milder temperatures of the shoulder seasons. While it receives rainfall mainly in summer and autumn in its habitat, it often slows down during the peak heat of summer and the coldest parts of winter.

Origin: Eastern Cape Province, South Africa. It is widely distributed from near Grahamstown (Makhanda) eastward toward the Great Fish River. It typically grows on rocky slopes and ridges, often in the shade of larger bushes or nestled in grassy thickets.
