In a rock given to me by a friend from the Colorado Red Rocks area. In habitat, it receives rainfall primarily in winter and spring. It grows actively during the cooler months and rests during the hot summer, though it can be opportunistic in cultivation if temperatures are mild.

Origin: Western Cape, South Africa. It is endemic to a small area in the Little Karoo (Klein Karoo), specifically on sandy, quartz-covered flats and low hills near Barrydale and Ladismith. It often grows half-buried in the sand, mimicking the surrounding stones.
