In its native habitat, it is a winter-flowering species that responds to the sparse moisture of the cooler months and coastal fog. It is highly opportunistic and will grow whenever moisture is available in the desert, but it requires a very dry dormancy during the peak heat of summer.
Origin
Southwestern Africa, specifically found from southern Angola through Namibia to the Northern Cape Province of South Africa. It typically inhabits the extremely arid rocky foothills and gravelly plains of the Namib Desert, notably between Seeheim and Aus.
