Echinocereus barthelowanus forms clustering stems up to 30 cm tall and 3.5–5 cm in diameter, creating cushions up to 80 cm wide. Spines are pink-red when young, darkening to black with age. Produces stunning lavender funnel-shaped flowers up to 5 cm long and 4–6 cm in diameter. A summer grower — water during the warm season and keep dry in winter. Use a well-draining cactus mix. Full sun for established plants; light shade tolerated by young specimens. Fragile root system — prone to rot if overwatered.
