This species comes from a region with year-round but erratic rainfall. It grows most vigorously during the milder temperatures of the shoulder seasons. It typically slows down during the peak heat of summer and the coldest part of winter.

Origin: South Africa, specifically the Eastern Cape Province. It is found in the Albany Thicket and succulent Karoo biomes, typically growing on rocky slopes and ridges from near Port Elizabeth (Gqeberha) inland toward Grahamstown (Makhanda) and Uitenhage.
