Origin: Northern Chile, specifically in the coastal Atacama Desert region of the Antofagasta province. It typically grows on coastal hills and terraces, often in rocky, gravelly, or sandy soils close to the Pacific Ocean, where it benefits from coastal fog (camanchaca).
