Origin: Northern Chile, Atacama Region. This specific collection by Karel Kníže (KK1393) is a topotype from the coastal desert area surrounding Caldera. It grows on rocky, granitic hills and coastal plains at altitudes of approximately 100–200 meters. This form is now generally considered a synonym of Copiapoa calderana.
