This is a tropical cactus that grows primarily during the warm, wet summer months. In its Caribbean habitat, it is highly opportunistic and will grow whenever moisture is available and temperatures are warm. It does not require a cold winter rest but should be kept relatively dry during cooler, less active periods.
Origin: The Caribbean, specifically widespread across the Bahamas, Turks and Caicos, Puerto Rico (including Mona Island), and the Leeward Islands (such as Antigua, Barbuda, and Saint Martin). It typically grows in exposed locations like limestone rock flats and coastal cliffs, often very close to the ocean.
