Gymnocalycium friedrichii cv. LB 2178 Tiger Stripes
Acquired: about 2 months ago(3/4/2026)
This is a summer-growing species native to a subtropical region with monsoonal rains. It grows actively during the warm, wet summer months and requires a dry, cool, but frost-free dormancy in the winter.
Origin: Paraguay, specifically the Chaco Boreal region of the Boquerón Department. The cultivar 'LB 2178' (collected by Ludwig Bercht) comes from the vicinity of Agua Dulce. It grows in the shade of scrub forests (Chaco) in sandy or silty alluvial soils. The "Tiger Stripes" selection highlights the species' natural horizontal banding.
