Gasteraloe hybrid cv. Green Ice

Like its parentage, 'Green Ice' exhibits a highly resilient, opportunistic growth strategy, achieving its main vegetative expansion during the mild weather of autumn and spring while slowing down significantly during the extreme chills of mid-winter and the stagnant, oppressive heat of mid-summer. It pushes slender flower spikes bearing tubular, pendulous pinkish-green blossoms primarily in late winter to early spring, utilizing its thick, reinforced leaf walls as highly efficient water-storage units to withstand prolonged dry spells. In cultivation, it is highly adaptable but values excellent airflow and a coarse, sharp-draining mineral substrate (such as an 80% pumice and gritty mix with minimal organics) to protect its thick, fleshy root system from rot. Water should be applied thoroughly only when the potting mix has completely dried out, cutting back the frequency substantially during seasonal temperature extremes to match its natural periods of rest.
