Notes
In a clay pot by @gv_succulents This species is a distinct outlier compared to many common succulents. It is a winter-grower that follows the seasonally dry tropical cycle of northern Madagascar. It produces its new leaves and greenish-yellow cyathia (flowers) during the winter months. As spring approaches, the leaves wither and drop, and the plant enters a deep dormancy during the heat of summer. Because of its thick, tuberous rootstock, it is exceptionally prone to rot if it receives water during its summer rest or if it is kept cold and damp. In cultivation, it should be kept dry when leaf-less and only watered once new growth appears in the cooler season.
Origin
Northern Madagascar. It is endemic to the Diana region near Antsiranana. This species is specifically associated with the "Red Tsingy" (Tsingy Rouge), where it grows in the crevices of steep, inaccessible red marl and sandstone formations. Unlike many other Madagascan Euphorbias that inhabit limestone, E. ramena is uniquely adapted to these dramatic, iron-rich eroded landscapes.
