Notes
In a cement pot from Prickly Point
This species follows a bimodal growth pattern driven by the temperate maritime climate of the Eastern Cape. It is most active during the moderate temperatures of spring and autumn. While it is opportunistic and can show growth in summer if moisture is available, it often enters a semi-dormancy during periods of extreme summer heat to protect its succulent branches from desiccation. In winter, it slows down significantly. In cultivation, it benefits from consistent but light watering during its active phases and should be kept much drier in the winter to prevent the central root system from rotting in cold, damp soil.
Origin
South Africa. It is primarily found in the Eastern Cape Province, specifically along the coastal belt stretching from the Kei River to near Port Elizabeth. It typically grows in grassy areas or rocky outcrops, often partially shaded by scrub or taller grasses which protect the central caudex from the most intense midday sun.
